Best Time of Year to Buy a Piano

When is the Best Time to Buy a Piano?

While owning a piano is great any time of year, there are certain times of the year that may offer additional perks and discounts for buying a new or used piano. Just like any other retail business, piano stores cycle through sales. Knowing the best time to buy a piano can save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

Best Time of Year to Buy a New Piano

The best time of year to buy a new piano is around holidays (which are typically used as an opportunity to hold a piano sale) when business is naturally slow due to seasonality–as piano stores will be more incentivized to offer great deals and pricing–or right before school starts.

Summer

Shopping for a new piano isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind when you’re thinking of summer “fun,” but that’s exactly why it’s a great time to buy.

Business is typically slower than usual during the summer months, so piano stores are often more incentivized to offer great deals and pricing on new and used pianos.

Not only are you more likely to get a great deal during the summer months than during the busier seasons, but you’re also more likely to have a prime choice for piano delivery times. While the piano moving & delivery team is often busier helping people move pianos during the summer, they’ll typically prioritize delivering new pianos to customers whenever possible.

End of Summer/Early Fall

The end of summer and early fall is also a great time to stop into the piano store. These are months when families are more likely to start extracurricular activities like piano lessons, so piano stores know pianos are on people’s minds. That’s why you’ll often see piano stores offering back to school savings piano sales during this time of year.

Spring & Summer Holidays

Going back to our earlier point, summer months tend to be slow around piano stores. This means the managers are often looking for any reason to grab people’s attention. Spring and summer holidays such as President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Pioneer Day offer a great excuse to bust out some sale pricing on pianos.

Also, this is typically when stores get new inventory and hold clearance sales to move their outdated stock.

November and December

Pianos remain a favorite, meaningful family gift around Christmas time. Piano stores tend to get in the holiday by offering piano sales around the holiday season. Look out for holiday pricing for Black Friday, Christmas, and New Year’s!

Best Time of Year to Buy a Used Piano:

While the best time of year to buy a new piano is around holidays or slow seasons, the best time to buy a used piano is when stock is highest at the used piano store.

Spring

As people are spring cleaning or preparing for a move, we see a lot of customers deciding to sell or upgrade their pianos. This means used piano stores like the Piano Gallery will see an influx of used pianos.

A larger inventory of used pianos means you have a great selection to choose from and are likely to find the perfect fit within your price range.

Used inventory tends to change on a daily basis. While piano stores like the Piano Gallery do our best to keep our online used piano inventory up-to-date, you’ll always get the best look at our used piano inventory by stopping by our piano showrooms!

Fall

Fall is also a great time to check out used pianos. We see families settling into new homes with new space for a bigger, newer piano. These customers are likely to trade in their old piano for a newer or bigger model to fit their new space.

This is also the time of year when families with children are starting new extracurricular activities such as piano lessons. This often means it’s more top of mind to upgrade their pianos as their children’s skills grow. This means you are likely to have a great selection of gently-used preowned pianos!
